Piano and live electronics - Acoustic piano meets Monome Shield Improvisation 021024
Переглядів 2164 місяці тому
Using Piano and live electronics together has always fascinated me. A short piece of improvised piano with electronic effects. In this piece, I used the Monome Norns Shield, using the OTIS app to create looping fragments of the piece I was playing. I went very controlled here, manually recording sections. I might try some more with random record for pieces in the future. I've just moved countri...
Acoustic Piano Meets Monome Norns Shield In This Short Improvisation
Переглядів 2157 місяців тому
Improvisation performance with felted upright piano and Monome Norns shield running the OTIS app. I recently moved countries, and bought an acoustic upright piano to celebrate - a Yamaha U1 to be precise. It hasn't settled yet, and needs a bit of a tune, but I couldn't wait to play it and record the tones it can make. I'm wanting to practice my recording technique on acoustics, and also experim...

Nice to hear you play again, Andy! I still remember you playing at Church here in Texas. We are doing well. Hope you are also. ✌️
Thanks mate! Glad to hear you guys are good!
butiful
Thanks mate
love what you produce with the Thyme ! ❤
Thanks mate! Hopefully more to come some day!
thank youi! i like
I'm glad
Beautiful Andy!
Thanks mate!
Love the sounds! What are your sources? I can't really see
Fairly certain it’s BIA.
Does release not work when in Arp mode?
I may be 5 years late but i love how original it sounds! mixing the snares with a sad melancholy really strengthens the feeling of war, order and the horrors of it. Love the video and definitely the music :)
Thanks! Appreciate the compliment!
thanks for your Video. I know it was some time ago, but did you ever connect the Elektron to Norns via Midi? & if so how did you do it since you have the Traditional style Midi on the Elektron but the Norns has a USB...
I didn’t if I remember correctly
How do you have the oxi set up ? Trying to use it to control my taiga for percussion too
You have to set up the gates and CV. if you don’t save them with the project you have to re-instate it every time you restart the Oxi
Lovely ❤
Thanks!
I know is 3 years old but would sessionwire work for two guitarist who simply want to work on our parts together? Very informative btw.
Thanks! Yeah it would but depending on exactly what you wanted there might be cheaper solution. Bear in mind that latency prevents you from jamming effectively at the same time. You might get away with using zoom and adjusting the sound pref to sound card and mic which would give you good quality and be free
Interesting script. I was doing kinda the same thing on Digitakt with recorded sound loops and green triggers, but only in mono of course.
Nice man. Yeah it’s worth a dive in.
this sounds fucking great man !
Thanks mate! Appreciate it
very calming and beatutiul
Thanks!
pretty dude....
Thanks mate.
Beautiful.
Thank you! Cheers!
Lovely work on this Andy !
Appreciate it mate. Just checked your tube. Lovely stuff! Let's Collab!!!
Such a hopeful, sensible, human tone at the end. This track is beautiful Andy. When I saw this documentary for the first time I was in my teens. I remember so vividly how I was so deeply moved by the music of it. I never forgot this documentary, nor do I think I ever will. Thank you for sharing your work, what a blessing to hear it it is 🙏
Wow thanks for the compliment. That means so much! Really glad it moved you. That definitely makes me feel like my work is more worthwhile!
Norns is easily a baffling thing, but I've finally got my head round some of it. This is a great demo of Compass, which I havent used yet. Def my next script to try.
Thanks. Glad you liked it, and I hope you find it helpful when you get that app on there! Yeah it's very baffling, but when you get even a bit of an idea of how it works, it's so powerful!
Just ordered the Behringer, and have watched a lot of videos on the way. Seems there are so many simple tricks that are personal to different owners that others haven't talked about. . Love that Voicing change by playing the notes in staggered order. I had thought about that with arpeggiated chords, but not chords as I don't really think of staggering the voices so much on paraphonic synths.
Have fun with it! Yeah voice change is my favourite thing about the MP
this is nice :) welcome to Texas. I'm hoping to buy a piano soon and play it with my norns also!
Yeah it's a super fun experiment.
Thanks for the help!
You bet!
😊 super Andy thanks for posting
My pleasure
hi there. i just got a pre built shields and as soon as i turn it on i can hear crackling non stop. not a constant hum or buzz but crackling and popping digital sound. if i turn down the overall volume or the engine volume it stops but if i turn those up again the crackle is there again but it doesnt show in the vumeter. any help? thx!
Are you using dedicated power supply or computer usb power? Docs say it could be that
Beat me to it!
Very nice demo, thanks. When you change chord, do the oscillators re-pitch and re-trigger immediately?
yep if I'm not using the tubbutec midi clock!
Beautiful use of this amazing script.
Thanks!
How it going, Andy ? Nice to hear your voice. This is Mark Carey from fellowship Bible church in Cedar Park tx.
Hey mate - great to hear from you!
@AndyDollerson HI Andy. Hope you are doing well. We are good. We moved to a little farmhouse in the country. Have a Great Christmas!!
how do you connect stereo output from the padel to the INTRFX? I wish to connect my MICROCOSM to the eurorack module. please let me know!
There are 1/4 inch jacks on the side that you connect the microcosm to.
Great! You sold me on the Monome to run my Eurorack VCOs through. I guess it's perfect for Ambient and Drone music.
Yes it absolutely is! That's how I use it most of the time!
Very nice. How do you get those fast morphing glitches and noise? What modules are you using ? I cannot see It very well from the video Thank you
Wow this vid’s a blast from the past! I don’t have most of these modules any more. Kinda wish I did listening back to this! The main sound is coming from rings. It’s running through the filter on the SV1 from, er, Pittsburgh i think? And the DLD from 4ms. I wish I hadn’t sold that 😬
Do these synths run on bare metal?
Don’t think so. Raspberry pi running I think on LUA.
Lovely
Thanks mate!
loved this !
Thanks mate. Appreciate it
cool demo. Good overview
Cheers!
Hi, do any of these products allow for multiple artists?? Thanks for your great reviews!
Hey Frank. Not entirely sure what you mean - do you mean multiple people can use them at the same time? Like you have several computers in different places working together? If that's what you mean, then I think that it's possible yes. I've not tried it, but I don't see why you couldn't. Especially with Audiomovers LIstento. However, I think there are other apps out there that are specifically designed for multi person jamming. Don't ask me what, Cos I haven't researched it!!
What I love even more than the presentation is that you answered basically every single comment haha. That's appreciation.
apart from this one apparently! Thanks for your comment
Holly molly, what a nice jam 😮🎉
Cheers mate.
Bad video. You won't understand a thing about portal. why don't make a clear explanation of the possibilities instead of rumbling? maybe because you don't understand the plugin? Thumbs down.
Hey, So I have been trying the maschine mk3 for songwriting and I absolutely hate it. The experience is not frictionless (especially since I also play the guitar and like my own samples). I am considering getting rid of all my half assed junk and buying an Elektron. Should I buy the Digitakt or the Oktatrack? I know the digitakt is more noob friendly and I have not used either. mainly wanna be able to makw dawless music but also seamlessly sync to a DAW when needed. Any help is welcome. Thanks EDIT - I also have a Korg electribe + 2 volcas. But since they are also not exactly seamless in terms of recording, its all a big mess. So just wanting to streamline to be able to finish track structures. Happy tp re-track everything again on top of that structure.
Hey so sorry - for some reason my comment notifications disappeared. So it's a late response! I'd start with a digitakt if I were you. It's smaller than octatrack, but super powerful. If you dig it, you can save and try the octatrack. But I think you'll be totally satisfied with the digitakt. TBH either way, if you put the work in, you'll love either tool. They're excellent for creativity!
I've learned that it isn't possible to record the FX section (reverb, delay, comp) via Overbridge. Does this also apply to the LFO panning that you've applied to the hi-hats? I'm planning on bying the Digitakt and it wouldn't be a problem to add the FX later inside the DAW but I'm curious if all of the filtering and stuff with the parameter locks would be lost also?
Hi, so basically the fx i think you can have sent out wet out the L R outputs, all the other stuff gets recorded as is via overbridge including all param locks and modulation
Yep exactly that!
Have you ever tried Source Elements?
I haven't, no. It seems pretty pricey?
@@AndyDollerson I'm not sure. I was hoping you had tested it so you could give us your thoughts on that one too. Great video, by the way.
@@victormiziara Ah well maybe one day for the update! Thanks for compliment.
This is very good and great inspiration!
Thanks!!
I like I've been looking to buy one but the reviews haven't been good enough this shows me from start to finish thank you
Glad I could help
Just what i have been looking for , incredible thanks!
No problem!
Did you ever release the final track? It really sounds great, probably the best use of this plugin I've heard.
You know, I never did. I thought about it for a while - but if I remember correctly I lost a couple of the tracks, and never got round to re-creating it. Maybe I should....
@@AndyDollerson That's a shame cause I really think the track had potential.
@@MrJfergs Thanks mate. I'll let you know if it ever surfaces
Really great. Very helpful. Thanks dude!👍😎❤
Glad! Enjoy
👏👏👏 tenes idea de cual es el precio. En Argentina no se consigue 😢😢😢🙋
Man this work and video is great and so much inspiring me to do more with the Digii!! Thxx
Welcome mate!
Stunning soundscapes 😱
Thanks mate. Appreciate it.
